Dizzy is a donkey who loves her yoga! She’s even got all of her other donkey friends to take part too this time!  This is due to all the amazing benefits that can be gained from doing yoga, and also provides a time for a couple of the donkeys to get in a few sneaky naps. 🙂

Yoga has lots of benefits! Including:

  • Improves flexibility and balance
  • Builds up muscle strength
  • Increases your blood flow
  • Boosts the immune system
  • Decreases your blood pressure
  • Helps you to focus
  • Assists to clear your mind
  • Helps to release tension
  • Helps you to sleep better
  • Increases self-esteem

Even just doing 10-15 minutes a day can make all the difference! 🙂

These are some of Dizzy’s favourite yoga poses! We hope you love them just as much as we do. 🙂

Seated donkey pose

Start by sitting cross legged. Place your hands on your knees and slowly become aware of your breath. You can then begin to roll your head in a semicircle from one side to another to help stretch out any tension in your neck.

Nosey to floory donkey pose

Start on your hands and knees. Spread your knees apart, keeping your big toes touching. Bend forward, draping your torso between your thighs. Extend your arms forward along the floor, with your palms facing down, like Dizzy’s doing! Or you can drape them to the side and behind you on the floor. Whatever feels most comfy for you! 🙂

Side donkey twists

Sit comfortably cross legged. Place your right hand on your left knee. Swing your left hand around to the left side behind you and place on the floor wherever is most comfy. On an in breath stretch and lengthen your spine (but don’t do this anymore than what is comfortable). On an out breath slowly rotate your body to the left, again only doing what feels comfy. Repeat a few times, and on an out breath come back to the middle. Repeat on the other side.

Catkeys Cowkeys pose

This is a nice gentle flow between 2 poses! 🙂 Starts on your hands and knees with your hands directly under your shoulders, knees underneath your hips. Centre your head and soften your gaze. As you inhale drop your tummy towards the floor, lift your chin and chest and gaze up at the ceiling. On an exhale draw your tummy to your spine and round your back towards the ceiling. Let the crown of your head drop towards the floor. Repeat as many times as you like. 🙂

Donkey forwardy, bendy pose

You can do this one sitting on the floor or on a chair (the donkeys got adventurous and did it standing up but that’s too much for me! 🙂 ). Begin by sitting with your legs in front of you on the floor. Raise your arms above your head, lengthening the spine, and then slowly, on an exhale, bend forwards from the hips. Only bend as far and for as long as is comfortable and then on an inhale slowly come back up again. 🙂

Donkey plankey pose

Begin on your hands and knees with your wrists directly under your shoulders. Spread your fingers and press down into the ground with them. Look down between your hands, pull your tummy muscles towards your spine, tuck your toes and step back, creating one straight line with your head and body. Hold for as long as is comfortable and then gently release.

Donkey legs up wall pose

Exactly what it sounds like! This involves just lying down on your back with your legs up the wall. Then just let your arms relax by your side and focus on your breath. 🙂 (Bob decided he wanted to join in at this point, for the last two that involve just lying down, upside down…)

Upside down donkey pose

This pose helps you to completely relax! It simple involves lying flat on your back, legs slightly apart and arms to your side with the palms facing up. All parts of your body should be relaxed in this pose. Dizzy and her friends love it! 🙂

We hope you’ve liked these delightful Dizzy yoga poses as much as we do! Which one is your favourite? 🙂

We do also have these donkey yoga poses in a little pdf booklet, so if you would like your own copy, please just pop over your email address to us. 🙂 xxx

Dizzy (being a very sensible donkey) just wanted to add that you should only do exercises that are comfortable for you. 🙂 And it is always a good idea to have a little chat with your doctor before starting anything new. 🙂

  1. Hope spring has found its way to your home. Wishing you and Dizzy a very Happy Easter from me, my two kitties Sid and Oreo and of course, from Dotty.

    1. It is! And it’s going to slowly get warmer over the Easter weekend. 🙂 Wishing you all a happy Easter too! I hope you will have a couple of Easter eggs to share between you? 🙂 xxx

      1. Biasini has stretching exercises he does with me holding carrots. He can bend his head and neck right round to his hip on both sides and also bend his head down between his feet and bend to the side and down toward his back legs. He gets a carrot as a reward when he gets to the farthest stretch he can manage. He really enjoys it. So it is a sort of equine yoga I guess.

  2. This is a very cute post and I was smiling watching the donkeys doing yoga – I hope you inspire your followers to do some yoga and it is beneficial to them Heather. In the “Donkey forwardy, bendy pose” – tell me honestly, did you have to sew those donkeys’ noses to the blanket or did they stay that way all on their own?

    1. No sewing involved; I don’t think that would have gone down well with Dizzy at all! They were very good, and held the poses long enough for me to take the photos. 🙂 xxx

      1. They are sweet indeed – I was worried you might have to resort to other measures. 🙂 If we don’t connect before Sunday, happy Easter to you and Dizzy. Will you be going to your mom’s for Easter Heather?

        1. Happy Easter! 🙂 xx I will be spending Easter with my mum. We’re planning on going for a nice walk as it’s so sunny here at the moment. Dizzy shall probably tag along too. 🙂 What will you be up to? xxx

          1. That sounds nice Heather and I wondered if you would spend the holiday with your mum as you do on other holidays. The walk and the sun sound wonderful too. Dizzy will hope you go to see the ponies (hint hint). Isn’t that nearby? It will just be quiet for me, a nice walk somewhere where it is paved, not grassy or a trail, as we have had two solid days of rain here and everything is very soggy. I am just grateful for the sun to appear after 8 days of rain! Enjoy your holiday!

        2. Did you see Parker? We didn’t see any ponies on our walk, but we did see some cows! Dizzy decided they were quite sweet as there was a baby one there. 🙂 xxx

          1. I did see Parker today Heather – it was a beautiful day here (especially appreciated not only because it was Easter, but we’ve had a string of rainy days, torrential rains too). Parker and his friends were eager for peanuts, likely because of two all-day rainy days in a row where I’m sure not a single walker was at the Park and there are only three of us who give them peanuts. All baby animals are cute, but those calves with their big eyes looking at you and the sweet face. Dizzy decided other animals besides donkey might be cute!

          2. Aww, I’m glad Parker and his friends got an easter treat from you. 🙂 They must wait for you! 🙂 And Dizzy has decided that other animals are also cute, but not as cute as a donkey! 🙂 xxx

          3. Yes, they were happy as it had been awhile due to the weather and we have another long stretch of rainy weather beginning today. The walking regimen is taking a hit these days – I should not have upped my mileage as I may have jinxed myself. Well at least you got Dizzy to acknowledge that SOME animals are cute, even if they are not donkeys and don’t have tall pointed ears. 🙂

  3. I’m assuming the Catkeys Cowkeys is a donkey special but it’s such a great name for a yoga pose! Heather, you’ve done another fantastic job with this post – a great reminder about the benefits & how easy it can be to start small and manageable with simple stretches & positions. Love it! xx

    1. That is one of the donkey’s favourite yoga poses. 🙂 And thank you, I did tell the donkeys to keep it all very simple. Dizzy can get abit carried away sometimes! 🙂 xx Happy Easter Caz! 🙂 xxx

  4. So cute! 💗 Yoga definitely has so many great benefits for our health. I have only done it twice in life in a class and at home. I would love to do it again.

  5. Wish I could get into the poses as easily as Dizzy….ha, ha, ha!!! I love yoga and still try to do a little even though my body is now failing me – it kept me going for so many years after my first back op aged 21. hope you don’t mind I have shared it on my reg PainPalsBlog feature “Monday Magic – Inspiring Blogs for You!”, Claire x

    1. It’s just my wordpress playing up. I have to now approve every single comment, even though I’ve asked it nicely not to keep having to ask me. x I am glad you’re able to still do a little yoga. And thank you so much for sharing it. We really appreciate it. 🙂 x Hope you’re having a wonderful week. 🙂 xxx

  6. Wish I could get into the poses as easily as Dizzy – ha, ha, ha! Yoga kept me going for years after my first back op aged 21 and even though more body bits are now falling off, I still try to do some yoga. I hope you don’t mind I have shared it on my reg PainPalsBlog feature “Monday Magic – Inspiring Blogs for You!”, Claire x (Not sure if I have already commented – it kept failing!)

  7. I just love this! The names of the poses are excellent. 🙂 I’ve always done yoga at home to the same set of videos. Those videos don’t refer to the pose names so I have no idea what anything is called. I think I’ll just use yours. 🙂

    1. Just use Dizzy’s! 🙂 I’m not sure if you mention the Dizzy’s yoga pose names to anyone else though, that they will automatically know which ones you are referring too… 🙂 xx

  8. I am sorry for being late, but better late than never, right!? I absolutely loved this. I really want to start doing yoga, but I get discouraged easily. I think Dizzy makes yoga look fun and she is so adorable with her poses. Thank you Heather and Dizzy for great information as always!!

      1. Dizzy is absolutely adorable and her poses do look easy and simple! I have been doing okay, thank you for asking. I have been dealing with the normal fatigue and pain, but it is nothing new. How have you been?

          1. You my dear are always busy and you do wonderful things! I think things are settling down at the job and it is only because I just don’t care about it. I have always jumped into work and over worked myself, it just isn’t worth it though, Thank you for asking!

Let us know your thoughts, they always make for a very happy Dizzy :)
