It occurred to Pooh and Piglet that they hadn’t heard from Eeyore for several days, so they put on their hats and coats and trotted across the Hundred Acre Wood to Eeyore’s stick house. Inside the house was Eeyore.

“Hello Eeyore,” said Pooh.

“Hello Pooh. Hello Piglet,” said Eeyore, in a Glum Sounding Voice.

“We just thought we’d check in on you,” said Piglet, “because we hadn’t heard from you, and so we wanted to know if you were okay.”

Eeyore was silent for a moment. “Am I okay?” he asked, eventually. “Well, I don’t know, to be honest. Are any of us really okay? That’s what I ask myself. All I can tell you, Pooh and Piglet, is that right now I feel really rather Sad, and Alone, and Not Much Fun To Be Around At All. Which is why I haven’t bothered you. Because you wouldn’t want to waste your time hanging out with someone who is Sad, and Alone, and Not Much Fun To Be Around At All, would you now.”

Pooh looked and Piglet, and Piglet looked at Pooh, and they both sat down, one on either side of Eeyore in his stick house.

Eeyore looked at them in surprise. “What are you doing?”

“We’re sitting here with you,” said Pooh, “because we are your friends. And true friends don’t care if someone is feeling Sad, or Alone, or Not Much Fun To Be Around At All. True friends are there for you anyway. And so here we are.”

“Oh,” said Eeyore. “Oh.” And the three of them sat there in silence, and while Pooh and Piglet said nothing at all; somehow, almost imperceptibly, Eeyore started to feel a very tiny little bit better.

Because Pooh and Piglet were There. No more; no less.

    1. I’m a big fan of Pooh Bear and friends, but don’t remember reading this before. Does anyone know what book it’s from?

      1. It’s not an A.A.Milne story, even if it says so. I’ve just been through all the books, and the only place this shows up is on internet pages in the past few years. While it’s generally in the Spirit of Pooh, it’s not as subtle as Pooh. Very much a New Age version of a Pooh story.

  1. Delightful and very important to know someone who cares is around. Dotty agrees since she is right here by the PC and she and I both never have to worry about being alone. Best wishes to you and Dizzy.

    1. We always love hearing how Dotty is getting on. I’m hope it’s not too cold there either. It’s just started snowing here, and Dizzy is refusing to go outside! Very wise donkey. 🙂 xxx

    1. I think it’s so sweet and important. 🙂 x I also went outside riding for the first time on Monday! Poor Ruby was very excited until she realised there was a little hill to go up! xxx

      1. I think they like to get out though. It is so god for their minds and for the rider’s minds too. Thanks for keeping me updated with your riding. You are doing really well!

  2. Winne the Pooh gave some of the best advice! Read all the books when I was little. Face it, I read ANY book I could get my hands on! I recommend avoiding the college level (my fathers old school books) on soil conservation. Was very dry boring and out of date! No plot to speak off.

      1. Have an appointment with my neurologist coming up 1st week of February. Starting to lose my long term memories now on top of everything else! Makes it hard to write a book about them. Counting days until my appointment.

  3. I love Winnie the Poo so much. Thank you for posting this, if only real people were like Winnie the Poo, and Piglet and Eeyore. Makes me want to sit down and read Winnie the Poo stories all over again. I’m goign to have to re-share. The donkey photos are so cute.

Let us know your thoughts, they always make for a very happy Dizzy :)
