A few months ago me and Dizzy did a little post on 10 things about living with anxiety for World Mental Health Day. Today we thought we would do one on ways of helping to cope with anxiety. 🙂
- Talk to someone you trust – Just having a little chat about how you are feeling can help.
2. Be accepting of your own feelings – Don’t get annoyed with yourself for how you are feeling (I know I do this one a lot!).
3. Breathing exercises – Focusing on your breath or counting in and out to a certain number can help make you feel less anxious.
4. Write down your thoughts/paint how you are feeling – Sometime all the thoughts and feelings can seem overwhelming. Either writing these down, scribbling or painting can be a way of helping to express and give space to these.
Dizzy has informed me that she is painting a masterpiece…I can’t figure out what it’s suppose to be…
5. Set a time for worrying – I seem to spend my whole life worrying about something, to the point where it can get abit out of control. But having a certain time can help. This means the rest of the time you can tell yourself it is not worrying time now and put it to one side. (I still need to work on this one though.)
6. Exercise – This is proven to make you feel happier! It doesn’t solve your problems but it can help to make them feel abit lighter and sometimes even abit more manageable. 🙂
Dizzy looking like she’s taking her exercise for seriously for the photo…she decided she needed a nap straight after the photo though so hasn’t actually lifted the weights.
7. Do things to help make you feel safe and remind yourself that you are – This is a super important one for me! If I’m anxious about something I will do a few things to make myself feel safer. This might be checking there’s no traffic on the motorway before travelling or taking Dizzy with me! 🙂 She’s very good in most situations! 🙂
We hope you find these useful too! 🙂 What do you do to help when you are feeling anxious or stressed? We’d love to know.
Also if you have any idea what Dizzy is suppose to be creating a master piece of I would love to know! 🙂 xxx
I love the tips that you give, and even though I don’t go through the same things as you, I am finding things that are still helpful to me. Thank you so much for the wonderful blogging!
I’m so glad some of our tips can still be of some help. 🙂 Hope you’re managing to keep warm and have a wonderful Christmas! 🙂 xxx
Great post and helpful information!
Thank you. 🙂 xxx
Great list! I especially love the picture of Dizzy in the car! Looks like she may need a booster seat so she can look out the window!
I hadn’t even thought of that! I’ve told Dizzy about your suggestion though and she said she definitely agrees! 🙂 xxx
Glad to be of help! 😊😊
DIzzy always has the best ideas and is just so adorable! Thank you for sharing this wonderful post! Much love to you and Dizzy!!
Thank you Alyssa. Dizzy is a very wise donkey. 🙂 Hope your week is going ok and much love to you to. 🙂 xxx
thank you for sharing these Dizzy! my Mom needs to utilize the exercise one and quit being a lazy lout! Barks and licks and love, Dakota
Lol! I think I could put myself in the lazy lout category most days. 🙂 Dizzy’s encouraging me to do it though. 🙂 🙂 xxx
Thank you for this great list of helpful ideas. I need to remember them at the moment, am now just 4 days away from moving house, and have got a horrible cold so things are feeling difficult to keep on top of. I’ve also got my routine check up with my MS nurse next week. All the things on your list help me too, and I also love restorative yoga 🙂 xx
Moving house is a massive task at the best of time. I so hope you feel better soon and it all goes smoothly. At least you’ll be moved in time for Christmas. 🙂 I hope the check up goes ok aswell. I love restorative yoga and always find it helps. 🙂 xxx
I don`t suffer from anxiety related things but this post is so amazing. I love the way you put it together also having fun writing it. Sometimes when we are sad this post would be great for everyone. Good tips and really well written. Dizzy is so cool!
Aww, thank you so much. 🙂 I shall tell Dizzy you said she’s cool too, even though I’m sure she’ll tell me that she was already aware of this. 🙂 xxx
Just double check that with her 😛
Yep, she said she was already aware of this! 🙂 🙂 Hehe. xxx
This is a great list! I find using the logical part of my brain helps too (silly word games on my phone). It refocuses the brain and allows the body to relax a bit.
Thank you for sharing your one. I had forgotten about using the logical side. I do find puzzles and sudukos help me to relax. 🙂 xxx
Wow, #5 is an eye opener for me…I’m gonna try it for sure – thanks!
It is a good one. At first I wasn’t sure about the idea of giving worry a time in the day but it can be really helpful! Let me know how you get on with it. 🙂 xxx
These are some great tips Heather, and as always, Dizzy has done a stellar job demonstrating your points!
Thank you Terri. 🙂 xxx
Omega Supreme says the masterpiece reminds him of his favorite lake where he grew up.
Awww. That’s really sweet. I shall tell Dizzy! How is Omega Supreme this week? 🙂 xxx
Great post.
Tip no 1. Go out side and look up at the sky for as long as you can. Works every time, when at night!
That’s a lovely one. I will start trying that one too. 😊Thank you. ❤xxx

Great list Heather and just what I need at the moment! Having a bit of a meltdown about work etc and I guess the holiday season doesn’t help. Thank you for all your ideas! Xxx
Hope you’re ok Jen and always here if you need a chat. Have you got time off work for Christmas and New Year? Xxx
Yes, it’s my last day at work today until the 8th Jan, so pleased. I think difficulties at work (not being able to do what I used to) are affecting me a lot, it’s hard. Thank you for the support lovely xxxx
It is hard but you’re doing really well. I’m glad you’ve got a few weeks off now though. It sometimes helps to take a step back and you can hopefully also get lots of rest. 🙂 xxx
Really great tips 😊xx
Thank you Emma. 😊❤xxx
Excellent post – I do all of these as well!
P.S. Dizzy exercising and riding in a car is the cutest thing ever!

This is fantastic! Dizzy is so smart 😊
Thank you. 🙂 And I’ve told Dizzy you said so. 🙂 🙂 xxx
Great tips
Number 2 and 4 are things I do too. Never heard of setting a time for worrying. Can’t wait to try out this tip. Glad I came across it <3
It was the one I wasn’t sure about, but it does help. Especially if you worry a lot during the night like me. 🙂 xxx
Yeah. Same here.
I just joined and am actually starting blogging to kind of relieve some of my anxiety into words. This post was not only helpful but seeing Dizzy made me laugh a little bit. Thank you for this!!
Thank you so much and I’m glad our post made you laugh. 🙂 I hope blogging is helping to relieve some of your anxiety. Me and Dizzy will have to have a little visit to your blog. 🙂 xxx
