Dizzy and I have been feeling a little MS wobbly because of the silly heat last week. 🙄 And MS, like many chronic illnesses, can be very unpredictable and can lead to lots of ups and downs. Some symptoms last foreverrrr, but some are just visiting.

When these ones are, it’s super important to follow some key tips, to help your body heal as quickly as possible. 🙂

Listen to your doctor

For any changes, it is vital to listen to our health specialists. They can usually offer lots of advice, including ways of looking after yourself and offering different medications.

They can also be good just for chatting too. I always feel better after chatting to my MS nurse; it makes me realise how many other people experience the same symptoms, and how I’m not just going mad. 🙂

Find other support

This can be talking to other professionals who could help, such as physiotherapists and osteopathic professionals. Some may offer sessions, and/or give advice on different exercises that you can do at home. 🙂  Your doctor or specialist may also be able to make recommendations and refer you to the right people.

There are also complimentary therapies available, such as reflexology, aromatherapy and yoga. 🙂

Talk to others

Chatting to others, who have the same condition as you, can make a huge difference. It can help you to feel less alone, and reassure you that there are others out there who know what you are going through.

Get enough sleep

It’s while we’re asleep that our bodies do the most healing. Which is a fact Dizzy and I love! 🙂  Make sure that you’re not depriving your body of sleep by going to bed too late and getting up super early.

There are always lots of tips, such as limiting screen time before bed and having a relaxing bath, which can help you to sleep. 🙂

Stay active (if you can – and don’t do too much!)

Doing some physical exercise can be really important. Low-impact exercise, like yoga can be great. You can even find exercises to do in bed, which might help your body to recover and to feel healthier. 🙂 Always talk to a health care professional first though. In some cases, just sleeping might be the right option. 🙂

Eat foods rich in antioxidants

Fruit, vegetables and nuts are rich in antioxidants and important for the healing process. Make sure that you’re getting these healthy foods into your diet while recovering. A little selection of the slightly more unhealthy kind is fine (Dizzy and I love our chocolate), but try to limit it, and make sure it’s balanced up with lots of healthy options. 🙂

Say no to stress

Stress is not good for any type of recovering. It’s exhausting and can trigger inflammation. Unfortunately though, stress does come with chronic illness, as living with a chronic illness is stressful! But make it a priority to de-stress: listen to music, read, take a hot bath, meditate, watch a film and laugh.

Or just magic all your stress away like Dizzy! 🙂

What are your top tips for looking after yourself and recovering from wobbly patches? xxxx

  1. These are good tips for any chronic illness and they are also good tips for people who are in good health too. These tips will help them stay healthy.

  2. Some fantastic suggestions for those with MS, and I think they can apply to other conditions, too. Thanks for the reminder about anti-oxidants, that was something I wanted to look at with my diet along with anti-inflammatory foods! xx

  3. Sorry to hear you and Dizzy are feeling under the weather. It seems heat and humidity is so bad everywhere this Summer. Parts of the United States (Death Valley, California) recorded a record high temp of: 121 F (49 C).

We’ve had a very hot and humid Summer too, with above-average temps most of this season and very little rain. It has been a boon for walking, but whew … it does wear on you after a while. I hope you and Dizzy followed your own advice and are feeling better now.

      1. I am doing fine so far Heather – I try to make as few trips out of the house to public places as possible. I always get a lot of pantry items in each Fall so I don’t have to go out in the Winter and been doing that for years due to ice/snow which I don’t like to drive in. So I will do that again. I just heard this morning about the UK having a spike and more restrictions. We likely will have a big spike as a result of the recent Labor Day three-day holiday. For Memorial Day in May and Fourth of July holidays, we had significant spikes from people getting together for family events and barbecues/picnics. I hope you are doing well and staying safe?

        1. We’re still staying in nearly all the time. Especially with the new spike in cases. It is going up very fast again, and there are not enough tests now. xx Are you still getting to the park to see Parker and his friends? xxx

          1. The same here in the U.S. and our state as well. Our Governor is a woman and Democrat and Trump does not like her … they are at odds and he calls her the “lady governor” and won’t address her by name. Here in the U.S., every day there is something new, a new lie and Trump argues that he knows better than medical professionals. I am not gong to get a vaccine until I know it is safe and will be hunkering down inside as much as possible. I do get to the Park every chance I get to see Parker and his pals – that is the best part of my day and I hate to see the sun getting up later so I have had to cut down a mile … only a matter of time til snow, which I am dreading.

          2. I won’t either. I want to know the vaccine is safe first! x It looks like we have hit the 2nd wave in the uk though. They are now threatening with fines, and parts of the country are in lock down again. Not here yet, but I think it is just a matter of time. :/ x How is Parker? 🙂 xxx

          3. We are going to be nearing 200,000 deaths in the U.S. soon – what a terrible thing this is and here in our state of Michigan we have lost 6,600 people. I wear a mask just to go outside … I do worry a lot and going to get my flu shot next week. They said to hold off til late September/early October this year. Parker is doing well Heather – he and the other squirrels are much more active and running around more now that we have lost our heat. We had a very hot Summer here – I don’t know if it would rival your horrible Summer (I think it was last year), but it was pretty oppressive. It is time to get apples and pumpkins to take some pictures with Parker and his pals. 🙂 XOXO

Let us know your thoughts, they always make for a very happy Dizzy :)
