The Health Benefits Of Ginger
I would like to start off by saying a massive thank you to Dizzy, for letting me be her very first guest blogger! What a privilege! We all know Dizzy loves Gingernut biscuits, so naturally, this post is going to be all about the health benefits of ginger! At the end of this post, I will also share my own very quick and simple-to-make recipe for Ginger Shots! Perfect for when you want a big hit of Ginger on the go!
5 Great Health Benefits Of Ginger (For Donkeys as well as Humans!)
- Ginger Reduces Inflammation – Ginger has been used for donkey’s years as a way of reducing and treating inflammation. Inflammation is that word we all dread. When inflammation occurs it can trigger off all kinds of symptoms, particularly for those who suffer from chronic illness, including MS. The good news is that Ginger contains a super strong anti-inflammatory compound called Gingerols which plays a vital role in suppressing pro-inflammatory responses.
- Ginger Can Improve Brain Function – As well as having great anti-inflammatory properties, Ginger can also help to support memory and cognitive function. Antioxidants in Ginger can also protect nerve cells from deterioration. Keeping our brain clear of inflammation can help reduce anxiety, brain fog, insomnia and depression.
- Ginger is an effective Pain Killer – Ginger is great at relieving muscle pain. if you’re day-to-day life results in sore muscles, or even if you just want a post-work-out fix for gym muscle pain, then consuming as little as a tablespoon of ginger a day could work wonders!
- Ginger can help Digestion – Indigestion or for some of us, chronic indigestion can be really uncomfortable and sometimes quite painful. Though Ginger is not a miracle cure for indigestion, what it does do is speed up the process at which our stomachs are emptied, which leads to better digestion. This is great news for Dizzy as it leaves more space for the consumption of even more Gingernut biscuits!
- Ginger can improve Oral Health – Ginger can promote a clean and healthy mouth and protect us from all kinds of bacterial and fungal infections related to our gums. Raw ginger is also great at removing plaque from our teeth!
How To Get Ginger In Our Bodies
Now that we know what an absolute gem of a superfood Ginger is, how do we get it in our bodies? The great news is that we can add Ginger to almost anything! We can make ginger tea, soup with fresh ginger, add it to stir-frys and curries and I’m sure that Dizzy will be particularly thrilled to hear this – even though ginger nuts contain sugar which is not so good for us, they also contain some health benefits. So Dizzy can keep munching away as long as it’s done in moderation.
Ginger is at it’s most powerful when it is in it’s the freshest form, so today I wanted to share with you my recipe for Ginger Shots. Ginger Shots are great, they are easy to prepare, and are convenient to have for breakfast or to carry around on the go! Like Dizzy, Ginger is one of my favourite things in life – I think Ginger and Lemon shots are fantastic on their own. However if Ginger is not your thing, or you think Ginger is too fiery – you can add some apple juice or carrot juice to the recipe to dilute the Ginger taste whilst still getting all the health benefits.
Ginger Shots Ingredients
-
2 Lemons
-
1 inch piece of Ginger
-
Apple Juice (Optional)
Method
-
Add the juice of 2 lemons to 1 inch of Ginger (Finely Chopped) to a high speed blender
-
Add apple juice(optional) or water if needed till you have a good drinkable consistency. You may have to scarp the side of the blender a few times.
-
Pour into a shot glass and Enjoy! (refrigerate the rest for later!)
We hope you’ve enjoyed reading our first guest post as much as we have. What’s your favourite recipe that includes ginger? 🙂 Dizzy would love to know so we can try them out. 🙂 xxx

I was just about to blog about the exact same thing after eating a ginger nut biscuit on the weekend. It’s like you read my mind.I guess I can’t blog about it anymore now. What a great post. iI didn’t know ginger reduces inflammation. I’m going to start eating it more often now. It definitely is good for nausea though.
That’s so funny! And Dizzy definitely approves of your snacking choice. But don’t let us having the same idea stop you from doing a blog post on it. Just obviously a case of ‘great minds think alike’. 🙂 xxx
Maybe I’ll do one on ginger recipes then. As long as nobody else does that. 🙂
You definitely should. Me and Dizzy will definitely try them out. 🙂 xxx

Best recipe i have tried for a quick immune booster. Treat cold and flu symptoms like a boss:
2″ fresh ginger
1 “finger” of fresh turmeric
1 large orange
2 lemons
Slice all thinly and stir in 1/2 c raw unpasturized honey.
Mix and refirgerat in a sealed jar. Keeps for up to 1 month.
Drop a huge spoonful in boiling water and drink up!
That sounds really yummy aswell! Thank you for sharing Kim. Will definitely give it a try. 🙂 xxx
Note to self: Act like an adult and figure out how to tolerate some ginger. 🙂 Thank you for sharing this information, it’s great!
Do you not like ginger? I’ve always loved it. Use to eat loads of chocolate covered ginger. It was so yummy. 🙂 xxx
Oh now you’re talking. 😊Chocolate covered ginger sounds yummy! But straight ginger 😬… in fairness, I need to try it again. Hoping today is being kind to you🌸
I think dark chocolate ginger is still a healthy option. 🙂 And thank you, I hope the day has been to you too. xxx
