Me and Dizzy have decided to document our little violin journey! And today we have made our very first video about it. I never thought I would do a video with me talking, so it’s abit scary, but Dizzy loves the idea! She’s been very excited about it all week! 🙂 Even though she is abit miffed with me for not letting her play the violin herself in this one. 🙂

So currently very basic violining going on; although, Dizzy insists she is an expert violinist and I should have just let her play instead. 🙂 We’ve also been listening to violin music to inspire us, and maybe to aim for (if we ever get good at this! 🙂 ). We are currently a little bit in love with Lindsey Stirling’s music and would recommend listening to her. She also has amazing music videos to watch! 🙂

Thank you for taking the time to watch our first little video! 🙂 Hopefully you didn’t have to cover your ears too much during it. 🙂 We won’t be posting many of these on our blog, but if you would like to see more of them (and also keep track of what Dizzy’s up to in the Youtube world – I’ve finally figured out how to organise it so Dizzy’s decided we will be using it abit more 🙂 ) please subscribe to our channel here.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend, and Dizzy sends donkey hugs. 🙂 xxx

  1. You are well on your way Heather. I enjoyed both your videos. There are a lot of great violinists here in Donegal but I love the sound from Lindsey Stirling. I hope you are having a terrific birthday. xx

  2. Well I didn’t have to cover my ears. Well done you for learning something new, I totally understand how difficult it can be as since our move, when I was 59, we have been trying to learn Spanish.

  3. Congrats on not only picking up the challenge of learning to play the violin, but on continuing to grow your presence on social media with you tube. New things can be scary as hell, but you don’t grow staying stagnant…. Kudos and congrats

    1. It did feel a big thing to do! At the start I said I would never post videos of myself as part of my blog. 🙂 But you are so right about growing. 🙂 I hope you have a lovely weekend Grace. 🙂 xxx

  4. Wow, Heather, I’m impressed! I’m sure the more you practice, the easier it will become for you. I love the way you remember which strings are which, but now I know why Dizzy’s grumpy .😂 Happy belated birthday – I hope you had a wonderful day!

    1. Hehe, Dizzy did not look very impressed with me when I thought of it! 🙂 But I must say, I haven’t forgotten the strings yet with it. 🙂 And thank you for the birthday wishes. I hope you have a lovely weekend. 🙂 xxx

  5. Congratulations Heather! I know you are going to learn to play the violin beautifully and I am sure Dizzy is going to be super helpful with this! Growing is so important in life and that is exactly what you do and I find this inspiring! Both you and Dizzy bring so much joy and encouragement to my life and I just love y’all for this!

    1. Dizzy is very helpful, but she does keep going on about how amazing she is at playing. 🙂 I agree with you, and I really love learning new things. It’s just something I’ve neglected recently. And thank you for your lovely comment, it means alot to us to know that our blog does help people in some way, however small. 🙂 Hope you are having a lovely weekend. 🙂 xxx

      1. I am sure Dizzy is great at playing, she certainly looks like she is a master at it!! I do believe we are supposed to keep learning in life and evolving as much as we can. I do believe you and Dizzy are great at this and I do admire you Heather. I hope your weekend is great as well!!

    1. Thank you Kirsty! 🙂 I really like my way of remembering them aswell, although; Dizzy does not like it quite as much. 🙂 Thank you for stopping by and I hope you’re having an amazing weekend. 🙂 xxx

  6. This is brilliant & your playing sounds great for just 3 weeks in! Such a clear tone. Will look forward to updates on Youtube. So rewarding to learn to play a different musical instrument. Does Dizzy try to help?

It is quite a funny coincidence, but I’m toying with the idea of trying out Saxophone hire. Not sure if my puff will be up to strength, but as I inflated more than one balloon recently I’m encouraged. I used to play the Oboe, but find it too demanding now. Will see if I take the plunge!

    Happy playing, budding violinist. 😊

    1. Thank you. 🙂 I have been making sure to practice everyday, even if it’s just for ten minutes. 🙂 Dizzy’s not much help, just keeps saying what an amazing violining donkey she is… 🙂 And thank you so much for subscribing to our channel on youtube, we have subscribed to yours too. 🙂
I think playing the saxophone sounds a wonderful idea! What draws you to that instrument? And that sounds hopeful. I’ve never been able to inflate even one balloon. Please let us know if you do, as we’d love to know how you get on. 🙂 xxx

      1. That’s brilliant to be so dedicated & disciplined in the timing. Often my downfall is not ‘knowing’ when to stop. It’s certainly paying off in your playing ability. Hats off too you. & Hehehe, Dizzy is a funny donkey. Thank you so much for subscribing to my channel. One day I may be more than playlists, lol!😁

I’ve always wanted to learn to play the saxophone & did have a try out in my 20s but the teacher creeped me out. So I shelved the idea. I used to play the oboe, but nerve damage affects my playing & it requires a lot of puff (which I just can’t muster) & facial strength for the ombouchure. Also a problem. The Sax looks like a possibility & renting seems a sensible way to try. Although the noise level may be a problem. I’m also very slowly trying to regain some of my singing voice & strengthen my breathing in general. But it is very slow going.

I’ve tried keyboard, but struggle to coordinate past one octave, lol. But I do love wind & brass instruments. I think the French Horn is sadly way beyond my reach. My neighbours will be thankful! 😅 I’ll keep you posted. I just love your ‘can do’ mindset!

        1. I think renting sounds a great idea, and then you can see how you get on with it. 🙂 I think they’re all quite loud. I never realised how loud even the violin was. I feel abit sorry for the neighbours, especially when some practices it just sounds awful the whole time! 🙂
Did you use to sing aswell? And please do keep us posted. Dizzy said she would love to know how you’re getting on too! 🙂 xxx

      2. I’m hopeful it will work out well. Pretty eager to get it organised. Will definitely keep you & Dizzy posted. I’m sure your neighbours are fine with your practising, your playing sounds very good to me three weeks in. You must be a natural.
And yes, I used to sing a lot. In Worship, AmDram & at parties, pubs etc. I don’t miss the pubs, but I miss being able to just sang! But it’s coming back slowly. I love music! Thanks for sharing on this subject, really uplifting & interesting. Have a grwat weekend maestro! 😊 xxx

        1. I do make sure to only practice during the day, so at least I’m not keeping them awake with it. 🙂
I am glad the singing is coming back to you slowly. It sounds as though you are naturally very musical! Please do keep me and Dizzy updated, we really look forward to hearing about your progress with it all (including the singing). 🙂 xxx

Let us know your thoughts, they always make for a very happy Dizzy :)
