Dizzy and I got our first tattoo!! I did spend the whole drive there on the edge of turning round, going back home and getting into bed. I was feeling terrified, and I was convinced that I was going to pass out as soon as I even saw the place! But Dizzy was brave, and we made it! I didn’t even faint, and we now have three new dragons as part of the family. 🙂

Dizzy is still a grumpy little donkey about them not being three donkeys, but I love them! And I have said to Dizzy that we will consider a donkey next time… 🙂

Although Dizzy is always a very relaxed donkey. I was also worried about having a tattoo with MS, and ended up driving Dizzy mad with the amount of reading, seeking advice and youtubeing. So I also though I would share some little facts that I discovered, just incase anyone else is a little concerned about tattooing and MS. 🙂

  • Having MS doesn’t slow down or effect the healing process after getting a tattoo
  • There are some worries about tattoos in MRI machines, as some inks can contain metal, but it is very rare for this to actually cause a problem (a recent studied with 330 people, only had one report of a person having a tingling sensation), and you can always check with your tattooist about the ink being used 🙂
  • Having a tattoo does not have any effect on MS (apart from the affects of a few nervous, sleepless nights before…)
  • Tattoos reduce stress, which is something we all try to combat 🙂 Although, again, not so true before going… 🙂

And you can always check with your MS nurse, doctor or neurologist if there is anything you are unsure of or would like to know. They really don’t mind! 🙂

The only down side so far has been Dizzy’s grumpiness, as the pain when getting the tattoo and healing process have not been nearly as bad as I was expecting. Although, we are currently in the peeling stage, so the dragons are looking a little scruffy in appearance. 🙂

Now I just need to think of names for my little dragons. 🙂 Any ideas? And have you had any tattoos? 🙂 xxx

  1. Oh my – a trio of them and what milky white skin you have Heather. It shows the dragons off perfectly. To pull Dizzy out of the doldrums, I would suggest you name them all starting with the letter “D” (to pacify Dizzy of course). How is that for a plan? (If lady dragons: Darlene, Dora and Diana). 🙂 That is good information to know regarding the tatoos – you deserved a special treat for your birthday … us girls must celebrate our monumental birthdays with a flair.

      1. I have taken some donkey pictures in the Summer Heather and hope to use them this Fall sometime. I was at a pony riding stable which is in Elizabeth Park and wanted to use some pics of me as a kid riding on ponies. They had a small petting farm with two donkeys named Amos and Andy – very cute so I will make sure to pass it along for Dizzy to see. Parker is great – saw him today. After our weather has been uncooperative for most of the Summer and early this Fall, finally we have an entire week of crisp days, sun galore and the leaves are starting to turn so I plan to go to the Park every morning and I’ll see Parker. He is busy hiding peanuts away for Fall but has taken the time to give me some cute poses too. xxx and {{{ hugs }}} to you and Dizzy!

        1. Awww, I would love to see the donkey photos! And I was going to ask if Parker was busy collecting and hiding food away for the winter, 🙂 I keep seeing squirrels busying away, hiding food. I do find the way they hide them with their little feet so cute!! Say hi to Parker from Dizzy and me. 🙂 xxx

          1. I will say hi to Parker for you and Dizzy this morning – we are having gorgeous weather this week so I’m making the most of it after a rainy, hot, humid and ugly Spring, Summer and early Fall. I just sent you a picture of Amos and Andy by e-mail. 🙂 I will tell you when i do the post – it may be after Halloween as I’ve got a few harvest and Halloween decorations to share and then there will be Fall leaves too.

  2. Hi, glad you like your new tats. They look good.! I have three tats but got them before i was diagnosed with MS now on immune suppressant drugs for it I’m a little hesitant to get any more but my husband & i talk about it often so i might do it again & hope to heal easily. You will enjoy your tattoos for years to come, very beautiful art work.

  3. I had three tattoos before i was diagnosed with MS, and three after. I am currently trying to think of a seventh tattoo. I’m not quite sure what it should be.

    1. I am terrified of needles! I faint if I don’t lie down with them. 🙂 But it actually wasn’t too bad at all. Much better than most of my other needle experiences. 🙂 xxx

  4. Oh, very cool tattoos! I like the 3 dragons, and your artist did a very good job. I have 3 tattoos, myself. It’s been several years since I got them, though. One is the word Ghost, one is a peace sign, and the other has both my grandkid’s names and two stars. 🙂

      1. I have two Humpty Dumpty although one is an exact drawing my daughter did when she was little, two stars for my daughter and I, we have matching tattoos of stars on our wrist and I have a raven on a skull on my other wrist.

  5. Such a delicate trio of dragons…totally original and artistic. I love them, girl.

No tats here because #1 I’m a complete whimp and #2 I’m a perfectionist and wouldn’t want them to suffer an identity crisis due to my saggy skin!!!
    HA!

    1. Thank you! x And I’m a complete whimp too. I really thought I was going to either throw up on him or pass out. Somehow I did manage to avoid doing either. 🙂 xxx

  6. I saw this on social media – I absolutely LOVE these little guys, such a cool trio of tattoos! You (and Dizzy) are very brave, but you know what they say about tatts… once you get the first one, you’ll be hooked and destined to go back for more.. 😉

I’ve always wanted one, since before I had my lip pierced over 10 years ago, but it was never the right time for years. I had the design already in my head and it had personal meaning. I asked at a tattoo place about it though and they said the design would look too small on my rather small wrists so it would appear like a dirty scribble. They advised going big and doing something else. Maybe one day I’ll actually feel I’m in the right place to finally get one, and be able to decide on a new design – You’ve inspired me!

I have wondered though about my immune system and tattoos, so I think it’s brilliant you’ve outlined any potential concerns with those looking to get ink when they have MS. It’s always best to read up on things, know the risks, and know what you need to do to be as safe and healthy as possible to avoid any nasty surprises further down the line.

I bet you’ll be freezing cold trying to get away with t-shirts in the winter just so you can keep an eye on your dragons! They’re so cool! 😄

    Caz xx

    1. Aww, what was the design? And I was worried too, but it doesn’t have any effect. There’s some evidence that having lots and lots of tattoos actually strengthens the immune system, but I don’t think I’ll ever get that many. I do think I might be getting a couple more though… 🙂 xxx

  7. I like those dragons! I did not know that tattoos reduces stress? How interesting! I need to read more about that! I have one tattoo. It’s a symbol of the region I was born in. My family have lived in the same region for more than 400 years. I don’t live there now, so it’s my way of still feeling like a part of that ancient family tree. Plus the symbol is a horse, horses are very important to me.

  8. Your tattoos are great! I always wanted to and haven’t done it, but I wanted a butterfly tattoo on my wrist. I am too scared to do it not really because of the pain, because I deal with pain well it is more because I worry I will change my mind! Crazy I know, but I just can’t seem to do it, yet!

    1. There’s no rush. Maybe one day, as a butterfly does sound very cute! 🙂 x And the pain really wouldn’t be anything compared to the rubbish MS pain stuff. It just feels like someone is drawing on you. 🙂 xxx

      1. I love butterflies and think there is powerful meaning to them. I think you are right, the pain a tattoo would be is nothing compared to what we deal with living with MS. I do have a high tolerance for pain. I guess as long as the person drawing on your skin knows what they are doing, it would be pretty!

Let us know your thoughts, they always make for a very happy Dizzy :)
