‘One of the greatest challenges in life is being yourself in a world that’s trying to make you like everyone else.’ – Frances Del Mundo
In life we all have days where we feel a little blue and low in confidence. Even Dizzy’s get them sometimes! None of us like these days, and it can sometimes be hard to know how to help ourselves feel better.
However, even doing a few small things can help to give us a little pick-me-up. 🙂 All Dizzy seems to ever need is a big pack of ginger nut biscuits and she perks right up! 🙂 Having MS though can make it difficult to get out of these moods (and is also often the cause of these moods), sometimes I don’t feel well enough to do much or even get to the shop for Dizzy’s biscuits! So me and Dizzy have been thinking of some simple, and low energy required ways of giving ourselves a little confidence boost on these days. 🙂
‘Talk to yourself like you would to someone you love.’ – Anonymous
Have A Chat To People Who Love You. Have a little chat to a family member or friend. People who love us, can help to remind us of why we are special, and make us feel better about ourselves. 🙂
Look In The Mirror. Dizzy loves this one! She is a little bit of a vain donkey… 🙂 Start of by sitting in front of a mirror with a piece of paper and a pen. Look at your reflection in the mirror and write down three things that you do not like, and three that you do. Then, write down three ways you could change the things that you don’t like. 🙂 For example, during my super anxious year last year my hair thinned loads! It use to really upset me so I would have a little look online and look at amazing hair extensions and wigs! I never bought any but just knowing that the option was out there made me feel so much better. Or if you don’t like your teeth, you could go online and read more about how you can get them changed. It may seem a weird exercise, but I think knowing you can change things does help, it did me, and over time I started to not mind my thinner hair so much. 🙂 Even though I still want to try bright pink hair extensions…. 🙂
Post-it notes! Following on from the previous exercise, write down the three things that you do like about yourself on post-it notes. You can also then write things that you like about your personality, or achievements you have recently gained. 🙂 Pop these around the mirror or on the side of your laptop. Anywhere that you’ll see them on your travels to remind yourself of how amazing you are. 🙂
Choose A Song. Music is an amazing way of lifting our mood. If me and Dizzy are feeling particluarly energetic we love to have a little dance around the house, but otherwise just having our favourite music on can really help (something that helps us feel calm and happy). We also love to have a little sing along, but we only do that when no one else is in. 🙂 Neither me or Dizzy are particularly gifted in that area…just don’t tell Dizzy that I said that. 🙂
Achieve a Small Goal. Set yourself a little goal for the day to achieve. Nothing too big, but something you are able to do. This could be as simple as making yourself a sandwich, or replying to emails that you’ve been putting off for a while.
Meditate Away. Practicing meditation can help to give our confidence a little boost, reduce stress and anxiety, and just make us generally feel much calmer about things. 🙂 It’s also great at helping us to focus on the now, and help us to move past the low days.
What tips do you have for improving self confidence and giving yourself a little confidence boost on the blue days? We would love to know so we can add them to our list. 🙂 xxx

Me and Dizzy have focused on the odd days of having low confidence and feeling blue, but if this is a bigger issue for you (which it has been for me and Dizzy is the past) then it is always worth seeking help, and also the charity, Mind, has lots of great information and advice. 🙂 xxx
Great advice Heather, please reassure Dizzy that he will never run out of ginger biscuits because you could always do a online shop 😃 talking about ginger biscuits! I want one now 😳
Take care and keep smiling xx
Thanks Elaine! I won’t tell Dizzy that quite yet though, she’d be expecting an online shop to come everyday with her ginger nut biscuits! 🙂 I want one now too…. 🙂 x
Hope you’re having a lovely week Elaine. 🙂 xxx
I’m a confident person-but sometimes struggle for words therefore sound quite the opposite
I’m generally alot more confident than I use to be, but I sometimes struggle for words too! 🙂 xxx
Brilliant post, it’s been a tough day so needed a reminder that not everyday is like this. I’m very good at talking to myself when needed, but there us a bit much going on at moment. Whole house in turmoil as retiling whole floor as non slip tiles are needed.
Thanks Jan! 🙂 I think we all need these reminders some days, but I’m sorry to hear it’s been a tough day for you. I hope it gets easier soon with the retiling. When will they be finished doing it? Just keep in mind that it will all be worth it when it is completed. 🙂 xxx
Yes yes… it’s hard to see the long-term ending, when we’re struggling thru a ruff patch… like wading thru thick oozy mud.
Thanks for these great simple practical ideas, ma’am!
That’s the perfect way of describing it. Those days do feel like wading through oozy mud. I do also love the word oozy! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by Mal. 🙂 xxx
I can comment here 🙂
These are great ideas! Thank you for sharing them, I needed to a good reminder today. I have a picture of myself as a little girl posted up and reminder myself to not have self talk that I wouldn’t say to her. It helps. Hoping today is especially kind to you!
Yayyy! I’m glad you have been able to comment on this one Mishka. x And thank you for sharing yours, I would never have though of having a photo up of your younger self, but I can see that would work really well. I think alot of us have a tendency to be too hard on ourselves and the way we talk to ourselves, but this is a lovely and simple way to help with that. 🙂 Thank you. xxx
I go to bed early and try to sleep and dream my problems away. Lots of clever tips! X
Sleep is such a good one, and one I can’t believe I forgot. x A good night’s sleep makes such a difference, and a little nap during the day. 🙂 xxx
Early night and deep sleep!
Sleep! I’d forgotten that one, but it’s probably the most important! Thanks for the reminder Cathy. 🙂 xxx
Such great tips to remember. I do like the music one, as listening to a favorite song really can put you in a better mood. Also, finding a small goal to accomplish and check off your list, is a good one. I like the quotes you found, too.
I do have a question…are you going to add a ‘like’ button on here? I like reading your posts a lot, but don’t always have a comment. 🙂
Thanks also, for visiting mine. I do appreciate that you do.
Best wishes for you and Dizzy!
Thank you Barbara. 🙂 x And I do really want to add a like button but at the moment I have no idea how too! I’ve set Dizzy on the task to find out, but she hasn’t come back with any answers yet. Hopefully we will have one on here soon. Thank you for popping by and reading our posts though, we really do appreciate it, and we love to hear from you. 🙂 xxx
I vaguely remember my own ‘like’ buttons being installed via the Jetpack plugin…I’m using a very old version and it still works! Check out the how tos in your wp.org forum. Good Luck!
You must have read my mind, because I was just thinking last night that I needed to ask you how you have your like buttons! 🙂 Thank you, I will check out the forum. xxx
Thanks so much, Heather! I see you and Dizzy figured out the like button! That was fast. There’s so many things I still don’t know how to do on here.
I’m happy you’re getting settled in with your new blog site…it looks great! 🙂
I’ve found how to add a like button! So you should be able to see it on all posts now. 🙂 xxx
There’s a line to an old country western song that my hubby ‘brought into the marriage’. It helps, don’t know why…
“Some days are diamonds – Some days are stones.”
I like that Dizzy listed out her ability to help make brownies as one of the things she likes about herself. Yay, Dizzy!
Hope you’re feeling better, but I know sometimes it’s easier wished than true.
Awww, I like that line too, and it’s so true about life. Thank you Laura. x And yes, Dizzy didn’t find it hard to make her list, but she is particularly proud about the brownies! 🙂 xxx
This was a great post Dizzy and Ms. Heather – you touched on so many points and gave tips, and I love how you intermingle Dizzy’s pictures with your hints. I especially love the quotes – they are so fitting for your topic!
Thank you Linda! I loved the quotes too, me and Dizzy are a big fan of quotes to help uplift us on the blue feeling days. xxx
Hmmm – My comment seems to have flown from the screen … Dizzy did you kick it to another page by chance? I wanted to say that I like how you intermingled the tips with Dizzy’s picture and I love the quotes – they are so fitting for your topic. 🙂
Dizzy did! But I found both of them hiding in another part of the site, and I’ve got Dizzy to pop them back on. 🙂 Thank you for your lovely comments. 🙂 xxx
Great advice. I think everyone can relate. Self confidence is one of those things that takes time but if you keep chipping away at it, you’ll there! Xxxxx
Thank you Sid. 🙂 xxx
Great to meet you Heather and Dizzy. What a lovely uplifting blog. I look forward to following your posts. Anita.
Lovely to meet you too Anita! And thank you for stopping by at our little blog. 🙂 I have tried to subscribe to yours but it keeps saying there’s an error. But I will try again later tonight. 🙂 xxx
I love Dizzy. She is sooo cute. I love how your posts always have photos of her. I often find myself having days like this as for me it’s the small achievements I need to celebrate and at once point in time it was being able to get a tablespoon of food down. Finding people you can talk to who are supportive can be very hard. I do have my family though.
I guess, and I will blog about it in December when I start my kindness challenge but the other thing I do is try to think of three things each day I am grateful for.
I don’t think Dizzy would let me post a post without a picture of her! 🙂 🙂 I often have days like this too, and sometimes patches of them. Your one about finding people who are supportive is a really important one. And what’s the kindness challenge you are doing in December? That sounds a lovely challenge and I can’t wait to read your posts on it. xxx
This is beautiful. I especially like the mirror exercise idea. I may try that. After enduring multiple miscarriages, infidelity, and now being a prison wife..this is a real challenge for me.
That’s all so much for you too have gone through. I’m sorry to hear you have been through so much. x Let me know how you get on with the mirror exercise. It can be quite fun too! You can imagine all sorts of mad, beautiful ideas. 🙂 Sending hugs. 🙂 xxx
I loved the whole of this post . . . and was touched to the heart by the whole thing. However … one small sentence made me cry:
‘A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it, it just blooms.’ – Zen Shin
SO so beautiful. So simple. … … … and so,so true. We can learn so much from nature, if we’d only listen and observe.
Thank you for this post Heather. I needed the love of this post today.
Sending hugs and squidges ~ Cobs. xxx
Thank you Cobs. x I love that quote too. And you are so right about learning from nature. I think it does us so much good just to be out and about in it. 🙂 xx I hope you’re ok and that tomorrow is an easier day for you. Sending lots of squidges and hugs. xxx
Ginger nut biscuits are the best! These are greattips though, I especially love the bit about talking to yourself as you would to someone you love.
Me and Dizzy love them! 🙂 And just about anything else with ginger in. 🙂 Thank you for stopping by and we’re glad you liked the post. xx We have just replied to your email. 🙂 xxx
