Summer is onĀ it’s way and me and Dizzy have definitely noticed an increase in humidity! For us this means being even more dizzy…

Heat is known for making MS symptoms grumpy so we’ve put together our topĀ 5 tips for helping stay cool this Summer! šŸ™‚

  1. Drinks lots and lots and lots!

2. Wear thin clothing andĀ make sure you’re protected from the sun if you’re outside for long periods of time.

Dizzy went for the largest hat she could find…

3. If you’re out and about take a cooling kit with you! In ours we have water, a fan and cooling spray.

4. Find ways to help cool youĀ down. This could include having a cold drink,Ā having aĀ cool baths/shower or splashing about in a paddling pool.

Dizzy found a bird bath…

  1. Good tips Dizzy! This past winter in Florida I found that it was cooler to wear one of the microfiber long sleeved shirts than to wear a short sleeved shirt. These shirts have a light mesh on the underside of the arms and the fabric is very breathable. They are cooler because I didn’t have the heat of the sun on the skin of my arms. Since I compete in the heat with my horse and the rest of the outfit ( breeches, tall leather boots, ) are not very cooling it was a real find for me to find these shirts and realize that covering was cooler than exposure to the suns rays.

  2. Good post. I am suffering with the heat too. All numb bits feel twice as numb!

    1. Buy a little plastic spray bottle from boots or the like and fill it with tap water. Spray often on face and arms and fan with an attractive/ romantic fan. It works wonders, costs nothing and makes you look enigmatic!

    1. That’s a great tip!! I’m the same. Haven’t been able to feel my hands for nearly a week now. I have a little spray bottle, just need to purchase a romantic fan. šŸ™‚ xxx

  3. Great post DD&MS! šŸ™‚ My top tips are:

    – Buy ice creams/frozen fruit lollies and consume šŸ™‚
    – Wear loose fitting clothes.
    – Place a cool flannel on your wrists and ankles as this helps you cool down quicker.

Or if all else fails, similar to Dizzy, open the freezer door and bask in all its cool goodness! šŸ™‚

  4. If you live in a house with a basement, hang out there during the hottest part of the day, if you can. You can even sleep down there if you have a sofa or sofa bed.

Also, close the shades and curtains on those days that it’s really hot.

    Keep cool, you two!

  5. Humidity- ugh! We have a dry heat here in Utah. I love your cooling kit! It’s actually a cooler day here today because it’s been raining. That’s a nice change from the 80+ degree heat we’ve been having.

  6. Go, Dizzy! Great tips!

I’ll add remember to listen for high heat index and/or bad air quality alerts! When you’re already dealing with a chronic illness and compromised immune system, those two things can turn a good day bad very quickly! Stay in!

    And stay cool! šŸ˜‰šŸ‘

  7. Dizzy and the strawberries reminds me of yesterday. I spent 20 minutes picking strawberries in the garden and discovered mice are having a feast on them every night! Please tell Dizzy I loved her tips on keeping cool. It’s been insanely hot here recently.

    1. Aww, that’s quite sweet. Had the mice left you any though? I’m growing some in the garden too now! I think the strawberries are safe at the moment though as they’re still green. šŸ™‚ Hope you’re managing to keep cool in the hot weather. xxx

      1. Yes, the mice are sharing. lol It’s been insanely hot here and today should be no different. But it’s about 6:30 a.m. and I was about to go back out to sit on the porch but it’s raining. That means it’ll be hot AND humid today. Ick. Stay cool. Kiss Dizzy for me! Protect your strawberries!

        1. Hot and humid is even worse! It’s very humid at the moment here aswell. 6.30 sounds early! Is that the time you get up everyday? I’ve given Dizzy a little kiss on her nose from you and have also told her shes on guard duty with the strawberries. šŸ™‚ xxx

          1. I was up at 5:30 which is about my usual time. It rained a tiny bit so I had to wait to have my coffee on the porch. I wish it had rained a lot more. We’re terribly dry here.
Thanks for giving Dizzy the kiss and tell her I’m proud she’s watching over the strawberries! What a good donkey!

          2. It’s the same here, hardly any rain at all this year so far. 5.30 is much to early for me and Dizzy though! I’ve told Dizzy, even though she’s come back inside now for an afternoon nap. šŸ™‚ xxx

          3. I don’t plan to wake up so early. I just do. It threatened rain this afternoon but it was all sound and fury. Dizzy has the right idea! Naps are great!

      1. Thanks but I am currently at the North of Netherlands. The wind from the coast is so cold (24/7), I am yet to experience a proper summer šŸ˜€

      1. You’re in the UK aren’t you? I’m in Ireland, we normally don’t get this level of humidity, but the weather has been pretty good lately

Let us know your thoughts, they always make for a very happy Dizzy :)
